Dancing Bears Book A is designed for pupils who have started to read but are not keeping up with whole class teaching. It can also be used with older children with a reading age of not more than 7 1/2 years. The book starts with Decoding Power Pages consisting of carefully-structured word lists of simple three-letter words, such as hot and can. A tame bear, often called a dancing bear, is a wild bear captured when the animal was young, or born and bred in captivity, and used to entertain people in streets or taverns. Dancing bears were commonplace throughout Europe and Asia from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, and can still be found in the 21st century in some countries.
